The Blessing of Obed‑Edom: Hosting God’s Presence for Divine Increase, Honour, and Generational Fruitfulness
Radiance of God is the result and outcome of entertaining and hosting the Ark of the Covenant in your life. The Ark of the Covenant is symbolic of the Presence of the Lord in us.
INTRODUCTION
The Blessing of Obed‑Edom is all about hosting God’s Presence for Divine Increase, Honour, and Generational Fruitfulness

2 Samuel 6:5–12 (NKJV)
(5) Then David and all the house of Israel played music before the LORD on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals.
(6) And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled.
(7) Then the anger of the LORD was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.
(8) And David became angry because of the LORD’s outbreak against Uzzah; and he called the name of the place Perez Uzzah to this day.
(9) David was afraid of the LORD that day; and he said, “How can the ark of the LORD come to me?”
(10) So David would not move the ark of the LORD with him into the City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.
(11) The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the LORD blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.
(12) Now it was told King David, saying, “The LORD has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness.
The account of Obed-Edom is one of the clearest biblical revelations of what happens when a man, a household, and an environment becomes a host to the manifest presence of God.
The Ark of the Covenant was not merely a sacred object—it was the tangible representation of the presence, glory, and government of God among His people. When the Ark entered the house of Obed-Edom, something extraordinary took place: the environment shifted, the atmosphere changed, and the blessing of God began to flow without restraint.
Scripture records that the LORD blessed Obed-Edom and all his household. This blessing was so visible, so undeniable, that it provoked King David to revisit what he had previously feared. What was once associated with judgment became a testimony of divine favour—because it was hosted correctly.
This reveals a powerful Kingdom truth:
The radiance of God upon a life is the result of properly hosting His presence.
To have the Ark in your life today is to live from the reality of the indwelling Christ—not visiting occasionally but abiding continually. However, the presence of God does not rest casually. There are divine demands that must be met if we are to host, sustain, and manifest His glory.
THE BLESSING OF OBED-EDOM DEMAND THE HOSTING OF THE PRESENCE OF GOD
Psalms 132:8 (NKJV)
(8) Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.
The Ark was never designed to be a temporary visitor—it was meant to find a resting place.
Obed-Edom was not just a man who received the Ark; he became a dwelling place where God could settle. This is the call upon every believer: to transition from occasional encounters to becoming a habitation of God.
God is not seeking visitation—He is seeking habitation.
The question is no longer, “When will God visit me?” but rather,
“Can my life sustain Him?”
To host His presence requires intentionality. It requires space to be made. It requires the removal of distractions, idols, and competing priorities.
You must begin to posture your life and your household in prayer:
- Ask the Lord to make your life His resting place
- Invite Him not as a guest, but as Lord
- Create room in your daily rhythm for His presence
- Remove resistance and yield fully to His leading
This extends beyond the individual into the corporate expression:
The Body of Christ must become a resting place for Christ as the Head.
Our homes must become altars. Our gatherings must become dwelling places. Our lives must become environments where He is welcomed, honoured, and enthroned continually.
THE BLESSING OF OBED-EDOM DEMAND US TO HONOUR THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD
1 Samuel 2:30 (NKJV)
(30) Therefore the LORD God of Israel says: “I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever.” But now the LORD says: “Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.”
The blessing upon Obed-Edom was not accidental—it was the direct result of honour.
Where there is honour, there is access.
Where there is reverence, there is manifestation.
Uzzah treated the Ark casually—and it resulted in judgment.
Obed-Edom hosted the Ark with honour—and it resulted in blessing.
The difference was not the presence of God.
The difference was the posture toward the presence of God.
Honour is expressed through:
- Reverence for what is holy
- Sensitivity to His leading
- Refusal to treat sacred things as common
- Alignment with His ways rather than human reasoning
You must ask the Lord to remove familiarity and casualness from your life. The danger in spiritual environments is not absence—it is over-familiarity without reverence.
What you treat lightly will not remain with you.
Make this your declaration:
- “Lord, teach me to honour Your presence.”
- “Let my life reflect reverence, weight, and holiness.”
- “I will not treat holy things as common.”
And as you honour Him, the Scripture is clear:
He will honour you.
THE BLESSING OF OBED-EDOM PLACES A DEMAND TO SUSTAIN THE PRESENCE OF GOD
Acts 2:42 (NKJV)
(42) And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
The presence of God is not sustained by moments or events but it is sustained by consistency in your walk with God.
Obed-Edom hosted the Ark for three months, not as an event, but as a lifestyle and manner of life. Likewise, the early Church did not encounter God occasionally; they built a culture where His presence remained through the practise of the apostolic culture of the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
The Presence remains where there is devotion unto the Lord.
To sustain the presence of God requires you and me to position ourselves in:
- Steadfastness in the Word
- Consistency in prayer
- Fellowship with believers
- A lifestyle of worship and surrender
You must cultivate a Kingdom culture in your life and household where His presence is not an interruption—but the very foundation of your manner of life.
Pray unto the Lord to establish in you and grant you:
- A steadfast spirit
- For grace upon you to remain consistent
- For discipline to guard what God has entrusted to you
Remember that what God entrusts to you must be guarded by you. That is your personal responsibility.
As you pray daily declare that:
- You will continue steadfastly.
- You will sustain an atmosphere where the Presence of the Lord remains.
THE BLESSING OF OBED-EDOM PLACES A DEMAND FOR YOUR HOUSEHOLD TO BE BLESSED
2 Samuel 6:11 (NKJV)
(11) The LORD blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.
The blessing of God does not remain isolated—it flows through everything connected to you. You become that vessel of blessing.
When the presence of God rests upon a life, it affects:
- Family
- Relationships
- Environment
- Resources
- Atmosphere
Remember that the blessing upon Obed-Edom extended to everything that pertained to him.
This reveals to us a very powerful truth:
When God rests on you, He impacts everything around you.
I encourage you to bring your household before the Lord:
- Pray for peace, order, and divine alignment
- Declare that your home becomes a dwelling place of His presence
- Invite His rule into every area—spiritual, relational, financial in your life and that of your family.
Every place where He records His Name, He blesses.
As you pray daily declare that:
- Your household are blessed.
- Your home is a resting place for His presence.
- Everything that is connected to you comes under His divine favour.”
THE BLESSING OF OBED-EDOM PLACE A DEMAND OF INCREASE IN EVERYTHING IN YOUR LIFE

Proverbs 10:22 (NKJV)
(22) The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.
Where the presence of God is honoured, increase follows naturally.
This does not take place through human striving, it is the divine overflow from the Lord.
The blessing of the Lord:
- Produces increase without toil
- Brings about provision without anxiety
- Establishes abundance without sorrow
This is not limited to finances only but it also includes:
- Spiritual growth
- Expansion of influence
- Multiplication of impact
- Fruitfulness in assignment
As you pray daily declare that:
- That the Lord bless the work of your hands
- That your resources align with His purpose
- That your stewardship reflects His Kingdom
- Declare that The blessing of the Lord rests upon you, that increase flows from your alignment and that there is no sorrow attached to what God builds in your life.
THE BLESSING OF OBED-EDOM PLACES A DEMAND FOR GENERATIONAL FRUITFULNESS IN YOUR GENERATIONS TO FOLLOW YOU
Psalms 128:3 (NKJV)
(3) Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table.
The blessing of Obed-Edom did not end with him—it extended into his legacy. God is not just interested in blessing individuals; He establishes generational continuity.
True blessing is measured by what outlives you after you are gone.
As you pray daily declare that:
- For strong, faithful generations to follow
- For spiritual sons and daughters to arise and come to maturity
- For a legacy that reflects righteousness
Reject barrenness in your life and that of your sons both in the natural and spiritual.
Make the following declarations on a daily basis:
- Me and my Household are fruitful.
- Our generations are established.
- Our children and spiritual sons will carry the presence of God with strength and faithfulness.
THE BLESSING OF OBED-EDOM DEMANDS PROMOTION AND PURPOSE IN YOUR LIFE
1 Chronicles 15:24 NKJV
(24) Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, were to blow the trumpets before the ark of God; and Obed-Edom and Jehiah, doorkeepers for the ark.
Obed-Edom did not only host the presence—he was entrusted with responsibility for it.
His faithfulness in private produced his promotion in public.
Hosting the presence of God will always lead to:
- Divine positioning
- Kingdom responsibility
- Purpose alignment
Remember that purpose follows proximity.
Those who remain near to God’s presence are the ones that He entrusts with His purposes.
As you pray daily declare that:
- For clarity of your calling
- For divine placement and positioning
- For grace to carry the responsibility that the Lord is giving to you
Make the following declarations on a daily basis:
- We are faithful with the Presence of God,
- We are positioned for purpose.
- We are aligned with divine assignment.
CONCLUSION
The testimony of Obed-Edom confronts a modern misconception and as such we must understand that we do not pursue blessing as an end in itself.
We pursue the Presence of God for who and what He is and not for what we get from it.
When the presence of God is hosted correctly by us we see the following results:
- Blessing follows
- Increase upon us manifests
- Generations are impacted
- Our purpose is revealed
The radiance of God upon a life is not manufactured—it is the overflow of a life that has become His dwelling place.
CLOSING PRAYER
Father, we declare that we will not chase blessing—we will honour Your Presence.
Make our lives, our homes, and Your Church a resting place for Your glory.
And as we host You, let every blessing that follows become a testimony
of the rule and reign of Christ in our lives.
In Jesus’ Name.
Amen.
