CHRISTOCENTRIC – DOES IT GLORIFY CHRIST?
Every true word from God will ultimately glorify Jesus Christ.
A central and non-negotiable principle in discerning the voice of God is that all true revelation from God is Christ-centred. The Holy Spirit does not operate independently of Jesus Christ, nor does He speak to build personal kingdoms, egos, or platforms. Every authentic word from God ultimately leads to the exaltation, revelation, and glorification of Jesus Christ.
John 16:14 (NKJV)
(14) He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.
The Holy Spirit’s Primary Mission Is to Reveal Christ
The Holy Spirit is not self-exalting. He is Christ-exalting. Everything He communicates is filtered through the person, nature, and work of Jesus.
John 15:26 (NKJV)
“But when the Helper comes… He will testify of Me.”
This means that any genuine spiritual leading will:
- reveal more of Jesus’ character
- deepen your relationship with Christ
- align your desires with His will
- increase your love and reverence for Him
If a “voice” shifts focus away from Christ and onto self-glory, personal superiority, or spiritual pride, it is no longer aligned with the Holy Spirit’s operation.
Christ Is the Centre of All True Revelation
All Scripture ultimately points to Christ, and therefore all true spiritual guidance must remain consistent with Him.
Colossians 1:18 (NKJV)
“And He is the head of the body, the church… that in all things He may have the preeminence.”
Christ is not a supporting character in God’s plan—He is the central focus of all divine activity. Any voice or impression that shifts focus away from Christ is a distortion of divine order.
A Christ-centred word will always:
- exalt Jesus above self
- align with His teachings
- reflect His humility and love
- draw attention to His Lordship
The Spirit Never Promotes Self, Pride, or Rebellion
One of the clearest indicators of a false or flesh-driven “voice” is when it promotes:
- self-exaltation
- spiritual superiority
- rebellion against godly order
- division from the Body of Christ
James 3:16 (NKJV)
“For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.”
In contrast, the Holy Spirit produces:
- humility
- submission to Christ
- unity in the Body
- clarity rooted in truth
A message that consistently elevates “me” over “Him” is not Christocentric and therefore not from God.
The Test of Christlikeness
A practical way to discern whether a voice is from God is to evaluate whether it produces Christlike transformation.
Romans 8:29 (NKJV)
“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son…”
The ultimate goal of God’s leading is not just direction—it is transformation into the image of Christ.
Ask these questions:
- Does this make me more like Jesus in character?
- Does this align with His humility, obedience, and love?
- Does it strengthen my devotion to Him?
If the answer is no, then the voice is misaligned with God’s purpose.
The Fruit of Christ-Centred Guidance
When the Holy Spirit is truly speaking, the result is not confusion or self-promotion, but a deepening revelation of Christ.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)
“But we all… are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
Christ-centred leading produces:
- deeper worship
- greater obedience
- increased humility
- stronger love for God and others
It never produces pride, division, or spiritual independence from Christ.
Three Key Questions for Discernment
To test whether a voice is truly Christ-centred, ask:

Does this message magnify Jesus?
True revelation will always increase your awareness of His greatness, not your own.

Does it draw me closer to Him?
God’s voice will never distance you from Christ—it will always invite intimacy and alignment with Him.

Does it reflect His character?
Jesus is the standard. Any message inconsistent with His nature is not from Him.

“Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person…”
The ultimate test of any spiritual voice is not only its emotional impact or perceived clarity, but its Christ-centred focus.
The Holy Spirit’s ministry is simple yet profound:
- He reveals Jesus, glorifies Jesus, and conforms us to Jesus.
- If a voice does not lead you to deeper reverence, obedience, and love for Christ, it is not the voice of God.
True divine communication always carries this signature:
Jesus is magnified, the believer is humbled, and Christ is made central in all things.
